Nach dem Medizinstudium an der Universität Wien absolvierte er die Ausbildung zum Arzt für Allgemeinmedizin im Landesklinikum Neunkirchen. Im Anschluss folgte die Ausbildung zum Facharzt für Anästhesie und Allgemeine Intensivmedizin im Landesklinikum Wr. Neustadt, wo er als Oberarzt tätig war. Dr. Fitzka arbeitete auch im Liverpool Hospital in Sydney, Australien, und war viele Jahre als Notarzt beim NAW Wr. Neustadt und bei der ÖAMTC Flugrettung (Christophorus 3) eingesetzt. Als leitender Oberarzt für Risikomanagement absolvierte er eine postgraduelle Ausbildung für Patientensicherheit und Qualität im Gesundheitswesen an der Universität Wien. Seine langjährige Tätigkeit als Instruktor für medizinische Simulation und menschliche Faktoren im In- und Ausland unterstreicht seine Expertise. Bis Ende 2021 war er als Oberarzt im Krankenhaus der Barmherzigen Brüder Eisenstadt tätig.
